Some experts say that it has to do with the way our society is structured, and our reliance on technology. There are a number of reasons why it seems like kids may be growing up at a more accelerated rate. So what’s causing kids to grow up faster? However, there are indications that kids may be maturing at a more rapid pace than in previous years. I don’t think that asking our kids to do their homework, keep their room clean, and help out with the household chores is asking too much. Just fifty years ago many children were responsible for helping on the family farm, caring for younger siblings, and by age 12 most kids had started working to help pay for household expenses.Ĭompared to that, most kids today have it pretty darn easy. I know it feels like modern children have a tremendous amount of responsibilities, but if we take a quick look back in history, kids have typically had a lot more adult responsibilities on their plate. While it may seem like children are growing up faster than ever before, the truth is that there hasn’t been a definitive study to support this claim. Are kids really grow up faster these days? If you’re feeling the same way, please know that you’re not alone, and that there are steps you can take to slow down childhood and encourage your children to enjoy being little for as long as possible. I’m sure I’m not the only one that wishes for a pause button that could freeze time and keep them at this age forever. I swear that I can physically feel their childhood slip away and it’s almost painful. In the blink of an eye, they’ve gone from toddlers to tweens. The previously tiny people who I used to rock to sleep and always wanted me around have been replaced by big kids who are more independent than I am ready for. "That's what I fucking believe!" Nicholas stabbed his finger through the air at the dead bird talisman lying slack on the coffee table. For the past two years, it seems like my kids have been growing at warp speed. "That's what you believe," Pritam said carefully. "I'd love to see it from your point of view, because mine is not that much fun! It's insane! It's insane that I see dead people, Pritam! It's insane that this," he flicked out the sardonyx necklace,"stopped me from kidnapping a little girl!" "And my sister's nuts, too, and we both like imagining that little white dogs are big nasty spiders because our daddy died and we never got enough cuddles." "Is it possible that the trauma of losing your best friend as a child and the trauma of losing your wife as an adult and the trauma of seeing Laine's husband take his life in front of you just recently." Pritam shrugged and raised his palms, "You see where I'm going?" He could feel Laine's eyes on him, appraising his line of questioning. Nicholas blinked, suddenly caught off guard, "Yes, I'm afraid of spiders." “I need to ask, are you afraid of spiders?" Their mentality eludes them from the reality.” You can't blame these kids for not being thankful or satisfied with what they have. They will cut themselves, overdose on drugs, take up excessive drinking and smoking, for the slightest problems in their lives. The unlucky ones will live in these problems. Your kids could be brainwashed by themselves to believe in insane theories that drive them crazy. Your kids could be exposed to problems that no kind of therapy can help. They have to realize the vast probability of their kids being victims of this age, this complicated era. With new problems, new diseases, new habits. Parents need to realize that the world is getting complicated every second of every day. Sometimes, even the really smart kids, make stupid decisions. Bubbles that will blur the rest of the world to them, make them feel like that is it, that they've reached the end. Bubbles that get them carried away with what they think is love, give them broken hearts. Bubbles that continuously tell them that they are not good enough. They will get caught up in all kinds of bubbles. If they are lucky they will survive, through backstabbers, broken hearts, failures and all the kinds of invisible insane pressures out there. But what they don't realize is no matter how much they try, their kids will get out there. They give them the best food and clothes they can afford, take their own kind of take on training kids to be honest and polite. “Most parents try really hard to give their kids the best possible life.
